Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM)

In the context of complex regional migration dynamics, the new UN Development System (UNDS) as well as in its role as the Coordinator of the UN Network on Migration (UNNM) and in line with its Regional Strategy 2020-2024, IOM seeks to deepen its engagement with the United Nations in Central America, North America and the Caribbean to effectively work in partnership with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders to maximize migration for sustainable development, protect and assist migrants, and ensure no one is left behind.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Guyana and the direct supervision of National Project Coordinator for the Caribbean, in close coordination with Senior Regional Liaison and Policy Officer, the Project Coordinator will support the commitment and work of IOM for the review and implementation of the GCM. The successful candidate will:

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • School diploma with six years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Humanities, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience

Experience 

  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills 

  • In-depth analytical skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of migration trends in the region;
  • In-depth organizational skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.

Languages: 

Required: Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. 

Advantageous: Knowledge of Spanish is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

 Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities related to the GCM.

·      Compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.

·      Support administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, follow-up on administrative actions, etc.

·      Draft status reports; identify shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest corrective measures.

·      Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.

·      Support the organization of meetings, workshops and training sessions; prepare training materials and participate in the delivering of capacity building online workshops in line with Core Working Groups 2.1 and 2.2 of the UNNM.

·      Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.

  • Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies and other elements of the UN architecture such as the UNCT and the UNNM, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project. 
  • Support the follow-up of GCM implementation -including the work toward the IMRF, and the role of IOM within the UN System, maintaining up to date, periodic communication channels with the RO.
  • Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.
  • Provides guidance/training; may supervise other staff as assigned.
