The Electrical Technician is responsible for conducting the maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical theory, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
As with all technicians who will be working on site, we expect an eager desire to learn other technical skills and work functions including Electrical, Mechanical & HVAC, Plumbing and waste water & sewer treatment operation.
CSEC (Mathematics – General Proficiency, English A, IT).
Technical diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent CVQ.
Certified Electrician licensed in Guyana (Level 2 or higher).
NFPA 70E Training.
OSHA 10/30 Training.
Carry out scheduled and unscheduled electrical maintenance activities as assigned by appointed supervisor.
Perform troubleshooting on electrical faults affecting lighting, receptacles, distribution boards, microgrid/ATS panels, pumps, HVAC equipment, and other electrically powered systems.
Replace faulty breakers, contactors, fuses, relays, switches, receptacles, lights, and wiring components following safety and lockout/tagout protocols.
Support emergency repairs on critical systems to restore operations with minimal downtime.
Monitor and report conditions on:
Main electrical distribution boards, panelboards, and sub-panels.
Microgrid, ATS and generator feeders, checking for abnormal readings such as hotspots, tripping events, or irregular load balancing.
Critical power circuits serving IT, life safety, HVAC, pumps, and fire protection equipment.
Lighting and emergency lighting systems, identifying outages and degradation.
UPS systems, where applicable — visual checks, alarm noting, coordination for vendor service.
All abnormalities must be escalated promptly to the appointed supervisor.
Execute PPM tasks per schedule, including tightening checks, thermal scans (if applicable), cleaning of panels, breaker cycling (where approved), and inspections.
Perform motor and equipment electrical checks (amp draw, voltage, insulation tests) as part of scheduled routines.
Complete assigned work orders in CMMS with accurate descriptions, photos, readings, and recommendations.
Assist vendors during scheduled electrical maintenance, shutdowns, and performance tests.
Respond to electrical alarms or failures detected by other technicians, system users, CMMS, BMS or the appointed supervisor.
Conduct initial field diagnostics on:
generator power issues
microgrid switching failures
tripping breakers
overloaded circuits
lighting failures
pump or HVAC electrical faults
Provide clear findings to the appointed supervisor for further escalation if required.
· Log all maintenance activities, faults, inspections, and part replacements in CMMS.
Ensure all entries include accurate time, materials used, photos, and corrective actions.
Maintain updated field checklists, electrical logbooks, and notes for proper handover.
Support the appointed supervisor with structured technical information needed for reports.
Follow all SSHE requirements, including electrical safety, arc-flash boundaries, and LOTO procedures.
Ensure all work complies with NEC, NFPA 70E standards, and indicated facility rules.
Maintain proper housekeeping around electrical rooms, panels, and equipment.
Stop unsafe work and alert the appointed supervisor immediately when hazards are present.
