The Role

Based at our project site in Guyana, you’ll be at the heart of our project operations, championing a culture where safety is second nature. You’ll work closely with teams across the business, influence real change on-site, and play a vital role in protecting people, assets, and the environment. You will play a key role in fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to regulatory and company standards.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct daily environmental and safety audits 

  • Oversee the implementation and enforcement of health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines 

  • Stay up to date with relevant laws and regulations to ensure the company's adherence to legal requirements 

  • Inspect and examine all health and safety related complaints, workplace accidents, outbreaks of diseases, the spill of hazardous toxins or poison 

  • Work closely with the client representatives, enforcement agencies and representatives of subcontractors 

  • Verify the adequacy and safety of all work proposed tools and equipment 

  • Review and approve all subcontractors’ safety plans 

  • Identify and assess potential workplace hazards and risks 

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to proactively identify areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions 

  • Investigate the work zones to ascertain equipment, production, and material processes do not pose a safety or health hazard to employees, work guests, and the public 

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and proper use of safety equipment 

  • Foster a culture of safety consciousness throughout the company 

  • Train and run drills and exercise with workers on how to manage an emergency 

  • Implement generated procedures for safety management systems 

  • Inducting new contractor and subcontractor workers 

  • Issue improvement and STOP WORK notice for unsafe practices on site 

  • Coaching workers on HSE matters 

  • Plan, organize, implement and inspect site protections at all work zones 

  • Validate and approve permits for contractor and subcontractors 

  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses 

  • Compile comprehensive incident reports, determine root causes, and propose corrective measures to prevent future occurrences 

  • Write daily safety and health reports and ensure they are completed 

  • Creating different frameworks that will reduce accidents and improve workplace safety 

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire drills, and first aid protocols 

  • Ensure that emergency equipment and supplies are readily available, and employees are well-prepared for potential crises 

 

Your Experience & Skills 

Essential Criteria 

  • Proven experience in an HSE role within the construction industry 

  • Further education in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH) or equivalent 

  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation  

  • Confidence to challenge unsafe practices and influence behaviour at all levels  

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills  

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset  

  • CARICOM Regional experience 

  • Fluent in both Spanish and English
