Overview:
The IT/Network Technician is a pivotal role at Georgetown International Academy (GIA), tasked with bolstering and refining the network infrastructure across the main campus and all associated entities (apartments, rented houses, etc.). This role demands a profound knowledge of network systems, with an emphasis on ensuring consistent connectivity and network performance throughout all GIA premises. The ideal candidate will bring to the table certifications in network disciplines, along with hands-on experience with Fortinet products and other networking hardware and software tools. The role requires flexibility to offer services outside of normal working hours, including late evenings and weekends, as necessary.
Demonstrated expertise in network administration and troubleshooting, with specific experience in Fortinet security appliances and tools.
Relevant certifications in networking (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet NSE 4 - FortiOS 6.2).
Familiarity with network hardware including routers, switches, and specifically Fortinet firewalls.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to perform under pressure.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Network Installation and Maintenance: Execute and uphold network resources, focusing on Fortinet firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points. Optimize network configurations for enhanced performance and security, utilizing Fortinet’s robust security features.
Support and Troubleshooting: Deliver daily network support to educators and staff, rapidly addressing connectivity and performance issues to minimize downtime, with a strong emphasis on Fortinet solutions. Provide telephone support for tech-related queries.
Peripheral and Device Management: Configure and maintain network-connected peripherals such as printers, including regular maintenance tasks. Oversee the allocation and management of school devices (Chromebooks, etc.).
Network Optimization: Consistently evaluate the network infrastructure for functionality and stability, both onsite and remotely, with a focus on leveraging Fortinet’s management and analytics tools. Collaborate with the Head of IT to implement new networking solutions and enhancements.
Event and Meeting IT Support: Organize and manage IT arrangements for school events and meetings, ensuring efficient setup, breakdown, and storage of equipment.
MAP Testing Preparation: Coordinate with educational staff to ready the network for standardized testing, confirming adequate devices and network capacity for seamless testing execution.
Security and Compliance: Monitor network security, manage Fortinet firewalls, and oversee access controls to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed records of IT issues, resolutions, and network maintenance activities in an electronic database. Prepare hardware for disposal, guaranteeing secure data erasure.
Collaboration and Development: Assist the IT Supervisor in crafting contingency plans for network failures. Engage in the planning and implementation of network upgrades and expansions, focusing on the integration of Fortinet technologies.
