The Canter Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of cargo for West Side Shipping Inc. (WSS). This includes inter-regional deliveries to Berbice, Essequibo, and Linden (as required), as well as regular pickups from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. The driver must ensure that all cargo is handled securely and that company vehicles are maintained in good working condition.
Valid Guyana Driver’s Licence for heavy-duty or lorry class vehicles.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience driving a canter or similar manual transmission vehicle.
Ability to lift and move moderately heavy packages.
Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
Excellent driving record with no major traffic violations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Operate a manual canter (lorry) to transport packages, boxes, and other shipments between WSS branches, customers, and designated destinations.
Conduct weekly delivery and pickup trips to Berbice, and Essequibo, as scheduled.
Collect cargo from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and ensure proper documentation for all received shipments.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and report any mechanical issues promptly.
Keep accurate delivery logs, fuel records, and trip reports.
Follow all traffic regulations and WSS safety protocols at all times.
Maintain a clean and professional appearance of the vehicle and ensure cargo areas remain tidy.
Assist with loading and offloading cargo when required.
Provide courteous and professional interaction with customers, customs officials, and other stakeholders during pickups and deliveries.
Support warehouse and dispatch staff with related tasks when not on trips.
