Sandblaster

The Sandblaster prepares steel, concrete and other structural surfaces on construction projects by removing rust, old coatings, scale and contaminants through abrasive blasting. The role ensures surfaces meet the required cleanliness and profile standards so that protective coatings can be applied correctly. It demands strict attention to safety, equipment care and quality of surface preparation.

•       2 to 5 years’ experience in industrial or construction abrasive blasting

•       Hands-on experience operating blasting pots, compressors, and associated equipment

•       Knowledge of surface preparation standards and blast cleanliness grades

•       Ability to follow work instructions and read basic site drawings

•       Relevant trade or safety certification (an advantage)

•       Set up, operate and maintain sandblasting equipment, including compressors, blast pots, hoses and nozzles

•       Blast steel, concrete and other surfaces to the specified standard of cleanliness and surface profile

•       Select and handle the correct abrasive media for each job

•       Inspect surfaces before and after blasting and confirm they are ready for coating

•       Erect and use scaffolding, ladders and access equipment safely when working at height

•       Mask and protect adjacent areas, equipment and finished work from abrasive and dust

•       Inspect, clean and maintain blasting equipment, and report faults, leaks or shortages promptly

•       Control, collect and dispose of spent abrasive and dust in line with site procedures

•       Keep the work area clean, tidy and free of hazards

•       Comply with all site safety rules, permits and supervisor instructions

•       Keep daily records of work completed and materials used when required
