A General Assistant in a mechanic's workshop performs a variety of tasks to support the smooth operation of the workshop. The role involves both manual labor and basic administrative duties, ensuring that the mechanics can focus on vehicle repair and maintenance.
Skills & Qualifications:
•Basic knowledge of automotive tools and repair procedures (helpful but not always required).
•Good physical fitness, able to lift heavy objects, and work on their feet for extended periods.
•Strong communication skills for interacting with mechanics, customers, and suppliers.
•Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
•Valid driver’s license for moving vehicles around the workshop.
Work Environment:
•Hands-on role, requiring work in an environment that may be noisy, greasy, and involve exposure to fumes.
•May involve working indoors and outdoors, depending on the workshop setup.
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Maintenance & Cleanliness:
o Keep the workshop clean, organized, and free of hazards.
o Dispose of waste materials properly, including old parts, fluids, and packaging.
o Clean and organize tools and equipment after use.
Assisting Mechanics:
o Help mechanics by handing them tools, holding components in place, and assisting with repairs as needed.
o Prepare vehicles for repair, including lifting vehicles or removing components.
o Conduct basic maintenance tasks like oil changes, tire rotations, or battery checks under supervision.
Parts and Inventory Management:
o Collect and organize parts and materials needed for repair jobs.
o Assist in receiving, unpacking, and organizing new stock or replacement parts.
o Ensure that commonly used parts and tools are well-stocked and easily accessible.
Administrative Support:
o Assist with basic clerical duties such as organizing work orders, filing invoices, and maintaining records.
o Help update service logs or parts inventory in the system if required.
o Deliver or collect paperwork or parts from suppliers or customers.
Vehicle Handling:
o Move vehicles around the workshop premises carefully and efficiently.
o Ensure vehicles are parked safely and in designated areas.
