Public Relations Officer (PR)

fulltime

Job Location

Soesdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara

Description

Position Title: Public Relations Officer

Corporate Group: JSB Investments Inc. — Group of Companies

Subsidiary Entities Served: JSB Investments Inc. · Armoroc Trading · Armoroc Construction & Engineering Inc. · Trident Marine Trading Inc. · Rinser Sales and Logistics Inc. · Armor Blocks · ArmorCrete · JSB Realty

Department: Executive Office — Group Communications & Stakeholder Affairs

JSB Track & Level: Office / Admin — Level 3 (Senior / Lead)

Employment Type: Probationary appointment leading to permanent employment, subject to written confirmation

Primary Operational Base: Soesdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara

Work Environment: Hybrid — office, field, sites, yards, quarries, wharves and community settings; indoor and outdoor

Requirements

•    Diploma or Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Environmental Science, Social Science or a related field — preferred, not essential.

•    Exposure to ESG frameworks, environmental permitting, EIA or social impact assessment processes.

•    Experience engaging Guyanese communities, community leaders or regulatory bodies.

•    Experience in construction, mining, quarrying, marine, logistics or another heavy-industry environment.

•    Design, photography or video content skills.

JSB provides minimal formal training for this role. The successful candidate must be able to operate on their existing capability from an early stage, learning JSB's business, sites and stakeholders rather than learning the discipline itself.

Responsibilities

Community, Public & Environmental Engagement

•    Build and maintain a complete stakeholder map for every area in which JSB Group operates, and keep it current as the group's footprint changes.

•    Plan and deliver a structured engagement calendar — not reactive contact — covering communities, neighbours, community leaders, regulators and other stakeholders.

•    Represent JSB in person at community meetings, consultations, site-neighbour engagements and public forums.

•    Record every engagement: who attended, what was raised, what JSB committed to, and by when.

•    Track every commitment made in JSB's name to closure, whoever inside the group must act on it, and report status to the CEO.

2. Concerns, Queries & Escalation

•    Operate a single, published intake channel for public concerns, queries and complaints across all sites and entities.

•    Acknowledge every item promptly, investigate it with the responsible site or department, and close it with a recorded outcome.

•    Escalate matters requiring management decision to the CEO early and in writing — with the facts established and a recommended solution, not simply a report of the problem.

•    Maintain the log so that patterns are visible: recurring complaints by site, by type and by cause.

•    Feed those patterns back into operations so the cause is fixed, not just the complaint answered.

3. Company Spokesperson & Public Position

•    Serve as JSB Group's spokesperson within the approved limits set out under Decision Rights below.

•    Prepare JSB's public position on matters affecting the group, and ensure that position is accurate, consistent and approved before it is expressed.

•    Handle media contact, interviews and public statements through the approved clearance route.

•    Advise the CEO and management on reputational exposure before decisions are taken, not after.

•    Ensure that what JSB says publicly and what JSB actually does are the same thing.

4. ESG Plan Development & Project Support

•    Build JSB's ESG framework from its current position — establishing the baseline, the register of environmental and social commitments, and the consultation record.

•    Support leadership in ESG plan development, and in the environmental and social components of new and existing projects.

•    Support consultations, stakeholder engagement and impact assessment processes for projects, including gathering, recording and reporting stakeholder input to project planning.

•    Ensure environmental and community obligations attached to permits, approvals and project conditions are known, tracked and evidenced.

•    Report ESG progress and exposure to the CEO on an agreed cycle.

5. Branding, Digital Media & Content

•    Feed accurate, well-written content to JSB's digital channels — site activity, projects, community work, milestones and company positions.

•    Critique and quality-check material before publication for factual accuracy, brand consistency, spelling and tone.

•    Submit all content for final publishing approval by the Chief Executive Officer.

•    Ensure JSB Group and its entities are presented consistently across every channel, document and public-facing material.

•    Support interviews, features and publications that represent the group's position, and protect the JSB name in everything published.

6. Research, Budgeting & Reporting of Initiatives

•    Research every proposed initiative before it is recommended — what it costs, what it achieves, who it reaches and what the risk is.

•    Submit a written brief and budget for each initiative for CFO and CEO approval before committing JSB to anything.

•    Track each approved initiative against its budget and its intended result.

•    Report after each initiative on what was delivered, what it cost and what it achieved.

•    Ensure initiatives serve the company's existing plans and priorities — engagement is aligned to the business, not run beside it.

The officer will also perform other reasonable duties within the scope and level of the role. JSB operates a cross-functional, shared-staff model; support to other areas of the group is expected where the business requires it.
