Description

The Fitter Machinist is responsible for fitting, assembling, machining, repairing, and maintaining mechanical parts and equipment. The role involves reading technical drawings, using machining tools and equipment, and ensuring work is completed accurately and safely.

The Fitter Machinist will operate workshop machines such as lathes and milling machines, carry out repairs and installations, and support fabrication and maintenance activities. The individual must follow safety procedures, maintain proper housekeeping, and work efficiently as part of a team or independently.

Requirements

  • Education / Qualification: Technical certificate or diploma in mechanical engineering, machining, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of practical experience as a fitter machinist or in a similar role in a workshop or fabrication environment.

  • Skills:

    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

    • Skilled in operating lathes, milling machines, drills, and other workshop tools.

    • Strong attention to detail and precision in work.

    • Good problem-solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

    • Knowledge of safety standards and workshop best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fitting, machining, assembly, and repair of mechanical components and equipment.

  • Operate workshop machines such as lathes, milling machines, drills, and grinding equipment.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Measure, align, and install mechanical parts to required standards.

  • Carry out maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment.

  • Support fabrication and installation works in the workshop and on-site.

  • Ensure all work is done in accordance with safety procedures and company standards.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and good housekeeping in the workshop.
