Mechanic Technician

The Mechanic – ATV & Mining Bikes is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of ATVs and motorcycles used in mining and remote field operations across Guyana. The role focuses on ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and availability in rugged operating conditions, with work performed in workshop and field environments. The mechanic will carry out mechanical, electrical, and routine servicing tasks while adhering to safety standards and supporting uninterrupted mining operations.

Academic / Technical Requirements

• Secondary school education or equivalent

• Technical certificate or vocational training in:

  • Motorcycle or Small Engine Mechanics

  • Automotive Mechanics

  • Heavy Duty Mechanical Maintenance or related field (preferred)

Experience

• Minimum 2–4 years experience repairing ATVs, motorcycles, or similar small equipment

• Experience working in mining, forestry, or remote environments.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills

• Basic electrical diagnostic ability

• Ability to work independently in remote locations

• Good time management and problem-solving skills

• Physically fit for field work and rough terrain

• Valid driver’s license; van, motor tractor, and/or motor lorry, motorcycle; riding ability is an asset

• Routine Maintenance: Oil changes, filter replacements, and chain tensioning/lubrication specifically for brands like Honda, Yamaha, or Can-Am.

• Suspension & Drive Train: Rebuilding shocks and CV axles which take a beating on rugged mining trails.

• Tire Management: Plugging or replacing heavy-duty mud tires and balancing wheels for off-road stability.

• Fuel Systems: Cleaning carburetors and injectors contaminated by "dirty" fuel or high-moisture environments.

• Perform inspection checks for incoming and outgoing equipment and vehicles.

• Carry out mechanical field service activities such as troubleshooting, corrective repairs, and overhaul of engines.

• Support in resolving technical and operating problems at customer facility/site.

• Analyze and make recommendations to solve technical problems.

• Prepare Service Notes for all repairs and routine maintenance services on equipment.

• Practice proper housekeeping of workspace and equipment.

• Assist in loading and offloading of equipment.

• Assist with operating lifting equipment and Hiab.

• Promote safety awareness, environmental consciousness, and quality improvement.
