The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for assisting with the inspection, installation, maintenance, servicing, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of the Company's facilities, machinery, equipment, and building systems across its restaurants, bakery, ice cream operations, administrative offices, and dialysis centers.
Working under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent supports the efficient operation of Company facilities by performing routine maintenance, responding to maintenance requests, assisting with equipment repairs, and ensuring assets remain safe, reliable, and operational.
Applicants should possess:
A Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Equipment Maintenance, or a related technical discipline from GTI, The University of Guyana, or another recognized accredited institution.
Experience
Previous maintenance or internship experience is required.
Practical experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic testing equipment is required.
Experience within hospitality, food service, manufacturing, healthcare, or commercial facilities is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Basic knowledge of electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
Basic understanding of commercial equipment maintenance.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Basic computer literacy is an asset.
Valid driver's licence is an advantage.
Maintenance Operations
Assist with the inspection, installation, maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, repair, testing, commissioning, and relocation of Company facilities, machinery, equipment, and building systems.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, commercial kitchen and bakery equipment, ice cream equipment, generators, pumps, plumbing fixtures, water systems, electrical systems (within competency), and other operational equipment.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns, diagnose basic faults, perform routine repairs, and escalate complex issues to the Maintenance Supervisor when required.
Equipment & Facilities Support
Conduct routine inspections to identify equipment defects, maintenance requirements, and safety hazards, ensuring findings are reported and corrective actions completed.
Assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and service documentation, while ensuring maintenance tools, equipment, spare parts, and consumables are properly used, maintained, and stored.
Assist with the maintenance of dialysis equipment and related systems as directed and within the scope of training and authorization.
Health, Safety & Teamwork
Comply with Company policies, occupational health and safety requirements, and safe work practices, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, work collaboratively with the maintenance team, contractors, and other departments, and perform any other maintenance-related duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
