Porters

A Porter is responsible for supporting daily store and warehouse operations by safely lifting, moving, and organising merchandise. This includes loading and unloading goods from trucks, transporting items to the sales floor or storage areas, assisting customers with carrying heavy purchases, and keeping stockrooms, aisles, and loading bays clean and orderly. Porters also help with unpacking, waste removal, stock rotation, and display setup. The role requires physical fitness, teamwork, attention to safety, and the ability to work shift hours, including weekends and public holidays.

• Completed secondary education.

• Previous experience as a porter, warehouse assistant, or labourer in retail/wholesale is an asset.

• Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely.

• Load and unload goods from containers, trucks, and canters in a safe and timely manner.

• Transport products from receiving areas to the sales floor, warehouse racks, or storage areas.

• Assist customers with carrying and loading heavy or bulky items into their vehicles.

• Ensure storage areas, backrooms, and loading bays are kept clean, organised, and free from hazards.

• Use manual handling equipment (hand trucks, pallet jacks, trolleys) safely and correctly.

• Support stock rotation (first-in, first-out), especially for items with expiry dates (e.g., grocery items).

• Assist with stock counts, verification of quantities, and reporting of damaged or missing items.

• Remove packaging material, pallets, and waste from the sales floor and dispose of them appropriately.

• Follow all health and safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and the use of PPE.
