Description

The HSSE Officer is responsible for promoting and supporting the effective implementation of health, safety, security, and environmental practices within the Company's camp rehabilitation, expansion, and pre-operational activities. The incumbent will monitor contractor compliance, conduct inspections, facilitate safety awareness initiatives, support emergency preparedness activities, and ensure that camp facilities and work activities are conducted in accordance with Company requirements and applicable regulatory standards. As the Company transitions into active mining operations, the role will evolve to support operational HSSE activities across the site.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Industrial Safety, Natural Sciences, Security Management, or a related discipline.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate, OSHA certification, or equivalent safety qualification would be an asset.

  • First Aid and CPR certification would be advantageous.

  • Training in Incident Investigation, Emergency Response, Environmental Management, or Risk Assessment would be beneficial.

  • 3-5 Years' experience in a similar position, preferably in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of camp facilities, rehabilitation works, and expansion activities to identify unsafe conditions and non-conformances.

  • Monitor contractor compliance with Company HSSE requirements and safe work practices.

  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness sessions for employees and contractors.

  • Participate in hazard identification exercises, workplace risk assessments, and job safety analyses.

  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, accidents, near misses, security events, and environmental occurrences and support the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Maintain HSSE records, registers, statistics, and reports.

  • Conduct inspections relating to housekeeping, sanitation, waste management, potable water arrangements, and general camp conditions.

  • Support environmental protection initiatives including waste segregation, spill prevention, and pollution control measures.

  • Monitor the use and condition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and promote compliance with PPE requirements.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities including drills, evacuations, and response exercises.

  • Coordinate with Medical First Responders and Security Personnel during emergencies and incidents.

  • Observe and report security concerns, breaches of camp rules, suspicious activities, and vulnerabilities affecting personnel, assets, and facilities.

  • Support the development and implementation of HSSE procedures, checklists, and awareness materials.

  • Assist with contractor inductions and site orientation programs relating to HSSE requirements.

  • Promote positive safety behaviours and contribute to the development of a proactive safety culture.

  • Liaise with department heads to address HSSE concerns and monitor closure of corrective actions.

  • Perform any other related duties that may reasonably be assigned by Management.
