Description
A Canter Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods between the company's warehouse, retail branches, and customers. The role includes conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring loads are adequately secured, verifying delivery documents, and maintaining accurate trip records. The driver must follow all traffic and safety regulations, assist with loading and unloading when required, and represent the company professionally during deliveries. This position requires a valid driver's licence for the appropriate vehicle class, strong route knowledge, reliability, and the ability to work flexible shift hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Requirements
Valid Guyana driver’s licence for the appropriate class of vehicle (canter/light truck).
Minimum 1 year experience driving similar vehicles, preferably in retail/wholesale or distribution.
Clean driving record with no major traffic offences.
Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read delivery notes and complete logs.
Responsibilities
Safely drive the company's canter trucks to deliver goods to branchesand customers.
Ensure all deliveries match the delivery notes/invoices; verify items and quantities at loading and offloading points.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle (fuel, oil, tyres, lights, brakes) and promptly report defects.
Secure loads correctly (strapping, covering) to prevent damage or spillage during transport.
Maintain delivery logs, trip sheets, mileage records, and basic fuel usage reports as required.
Collect signatures and stamps on delivery documents and return them to the relevant department daily.
Work closely with Porters/Loaders to coordinate loading/unloading while maintaining safety standards.
Comply with all traffic laws, parking regulations, and company driving policies.
Safeguard company property and goods, and immediately report accidents, incidents, or security concerns.
Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, security guards, and the public.
