The Estimator – Civil Works is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil infrastructure projects. This role requires proven commercial experience estimating composite bridge construction and general civil works such as roads, drainage systems, and associated infrastructure, with a strong understanding of local conditions in Guyana.
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Professional certification or training in estimating, cost engineering, or quantity surveying is an advantage.
Demonstrated commercial experience preparing cost estimates for composite bridge construction projects in Guyana and roads, drainage systems, and related infrastructure.
Experience working on infrastructure projects in developing or similar regional markets is preferred.
Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and local construction practices.
Estimating & Cost Management
Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tenders for civil works projects including composite bridges, roads, drainage, earthworks, and associated infrastructure.
Perform accurate quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and other tender documentation.
Develop unit rates for labor, materials, plant, equipment, subcontractors, and preliminaries.
Assess construction methodologies and sequencing to ensure estimates reflect practical execution.
Review and interpret contract conditions to identify commercial risks, exclusions, and obligations.
Prepare pricing schedules, bills of quantities, and cost breakdown structures.
Commercial & Risk Analysis
Identify cost risks, opportunities, and assumptions and clearly document them within estimates.
Conduct value engineering and cost optimization exercises where appropriate.
Analyze historical project data and current market trends to improve estimate accuracy.
Support tender clarifications, negotiations, and post-bid reviews.
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, Business Development and subcontractors during tender preparation.
Support handover of awarded projects to project delivery teams, including explanation of pricing assumptions and risks.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure estimates comply with technical specifications, employer’s requirements, and applicable standards.
Maintain accurate records of estimates, assumptions, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
Assist with audits, commercial reviews, and management reporting as required.
