The purpose of a Surveyor Lead is to ensure that all surveying activities on a project are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with standards. In essence, this role exists to bridge the gap between technical precision and project execution.
Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in civil construction, land development, or engineering surveying.
5 years or more in progressive experience, including supervisory responsibilities and project management exposure.
Proficiency with surveying instruments.
Strong knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Micro Survey, or similar).
Ability to interpret maps, boundaries, and topographic data.
Leadership and team management skills.
Understanding of health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and reporting abilities.
Develops survey plans, schedules, and allocates resources to ensure efficient field operations.
Oversees survey crews during data collection, ensuring safety and accuracy in measurements.
Reviews validate and interpret survey data before passing it on to engineers, architects, or planners.
Implement standards and procedures to maintain precision and consistency across all survey outputs
Acts as the link between survey teams and other project stakeholders, ensuring alignment with design and construction needs.
Ensures all surveying activities meet legal, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Prepares maps, charts, and technical reports that inform project decisions.
Identifies and resolves discrepancies in measurements or site conditions that could affect project outcomes.
Building stronger team management, communication, and conflict resolution abilities.
Learning advanced scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation to handle larger, more complex projects.
Training junior surveyors and technicians to strengthen the team’s overall capability.
Promotes safe working environments, fair treatment, and professional development opportunities for survey staff.
Helps teams adapt to organizational changes, new technologies, or updated industry standards while maintaining morale.
