GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Kale Constructions is a rapidly growing Construction Rigging company, involved principally in the sub-sector of Tower Rigging and Climbing. The position of Rigger Apprentice is a formal contracted role which enables him/her to obtain on-the-job training in rigging and climbing. The Rigger Apprentice will spend time working and learning practical skills on the job as well as completing structured online training with a registered training provider. On the job training will be acquired principally through Kale Constructions projects but may include short assignments with affiliates, approved and organised by Kale Constructions. The Rigger Apprentice will perform tasks involving physical labour of building, lifting, hoisting and other actions consistent with rigging. The Rigger Apprentice will undertake tasks both at height (on towers or other high structures) and on the ground. Rigging duties will include carpentry and masonry, electrical work, solar system, antenna, dish, cable installation and mounting hardware on towers anywhere from 50 – 420 feet tall. The Apprentice will operate hand and power tools, erect scaffolding, prepare and clean-up sites, pack and unpack tools and equipment for storage and transport, and assist with general record keeping.

TRAVEL

The Apprentice will be required to travel to various Administrative Regions of Guyana as projects may demand. Travel may include air, river and/or road. Living conditions may vary and is dependent on available local facilities and infrastructure.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work weeks are 40 hours (5 days per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) except while on a project site. Projects will continue until complete and may include weekends or holidays unless otherwise agreed with Supervisor. Workdays on project sites typically begin at 8:00 am but may vary from site to site. Workdays include a one-hour lunch break per day

Requirements

• Ability to travel out of town for extended periods

• Travel long distances to and from different locations safely.

• Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays

• Completion of High School. Previous training or experience with electrical systems, cable or internet networking or other technical skill is an asset.

• Strong troubleshooting abilities

• Ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time

• Manual dexterity

• Ability to lift between 11 and 25 kg.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a Senior Rigger and/or Tower Technician, the Rigger Apprentice will assist on the following:

  • Assembly, Erection and Maintenance of Towers

  • Installation of Network and Solar equipment, Cables, Antenna and other Tower hardware  

  • Assist with electrical wiring and IT systems installation

  • Select and pack for assignments as directed.  This includes loading and unloading trucks, organizing convoys, etc.

  • Organize and store equipment

  • Check safety equipment post assignment for wear and tear

  • Attach loads to rigging equipment to provide support and preparation

  • Assist with general site cleanup and daily maintenance of rigging equipment

  • Ensure all work is done according to project and safety instructions

  • Other duties and responsibilities consistent with the business of Kale Constructions and role of the TCT
