Description

Brunel is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work in a 6-month to 1-year contract (with possibility of extension) with one of our clients in the oil and gas sector! This would be an opportunity to work in their port operations team, onshore, located in West Bank Demerara, Guyana.

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair critical machinery and vehicles used in port operations, including forklifts, trucks, and cranes. This position is essential for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe, efficient operations within their oil and gas port facility.

Requirements

  • Certificate or diploma in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or a related technical field.

  • Hands-on experience servicing forklifts, heavy trucks, and cranes (including hydraulic and mechanical systems).

  • Experience working in oil & gas, port, or industrial environments is preferred.

  • Familiarity with maintenance software or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.

  • Knowledge of OEM manuals, technical diagrams, and diagnostic tools.

  • Valid driver’s license (commercial class preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel and gas powered forklifts, trucks, and cranes (up to 200 tons).

  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems and perform necessary repairs or replacements.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and company schedules.

  • Maintain detailed service records for all equipment, including work performed, parts used, and operational notes.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, both in the workshop and in the field.

  • Support crane and truck inspections required for regulatory compliance and certification.

  • Collaborate with equipment operators and supervisors to identify recurring issues or equipment misuse.

  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out safely, with proper tools, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory and request supplies as needed.

  • Participate in training, safety meetings, and toolbox talks as required.
