The QHSE Officer is responsible for implementing and maintaining Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) standards to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company requirements. You will play a key role in risk management, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and workplace safety.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience: 2-5 years in QHSE, HSE, or Quality roles, preferably in the Energy Environment or Construction.
Certifications (Preferred):
ISO 9001 / 45001 / 14001 Lead Auditor.
NEBOSH / OSHA / IOSH certification.
First Aid & Fire Safety Certification.
Strong knowledge of QHSE regulations, risk management, and compliance standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QHSE management software.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar role.
Experience in a construction environment will be an asset.
Working knowledge of Guyana’s health and safety legislation and procedures.
Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
Experience with conducting data analysis and statistical reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Management (Q)
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant quality management standards.
Conduct internal audits, inspections, and quality control checks on processes and products.
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency.
Investigate and address non-conformances.
2. Health & Safety (H&S)
Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations (OSHA, ISO 45001, etc.).
Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and workplace inspections.
Develop and implement safety training programs for employees.
Assist the Health, Safety and Security Manager with the implementation and compliance of applicable OSHA programs, along with conducting new employee and contractor safety orientations.
Perform Job Safety Analyses on specific jobs to minimize the risk of potential safety hazards.
Assist in auditing elements of the safety program to ensure compliance.
Support the HR Department in setting up the safety on-boarding process for all new employees.
Support investigations on the root causes of accidents and other unsafe conditions or behaviours on the job site and recommend preventative measures.
Submit accident notifications to OSHA within the required time frames.
Monitor employee and contractor compliance with Company’s safety rules and regulations.
Collect and analyze health and safety data; conduct research on specific issues.
Assist in coordinating interdepartmental health and safety activities.
Assist with establishing and monitoring worker exposure limits to health hazards.
Attend monthly Safety Leadership Team (Safety Committee) meetings.
Perform any other related duties that may be assigned.
3. Environmental Management (E)
Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and environmental regulations.
Monitor and manage waste disposal, pollution control, and energy conservation programs.
Conduct environmental impact assessments and promote sustainability initiatives.
Train employees on environmental best practices.
4. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain and update QHSE policies, procedures, and safety records.
Prepare audit reports, compliance documentation, and performance metrics.
Coordinate external audits and certifications (ISO, regulatory bodies, etc.).
5. Training & Team Collaboration
Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and QHSE training.
Work closely with management, operations, and HSE teams to implement best practices.
Promote a strong QHSE culture within the organization.
