The Construction Supervisor, Roads & Infrastructure is responsible for supervising the construction contractor(s) delivering roads, drainage, earthworks, bridges, culverts, water management and associated infrastructure for a remote greenfield open pit gold mine development project in Guyana.
Diploma, degree or technical qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
Preferably 7–10+ years of relevant construction experience, preferably on large-scale mining, infrastructure or major earthworks projects.
Demonstrated experience supervising civil construction contractors on remote or major project sites.
Experience with roads, earthworks, drainage, culverts, bridges and associated infrastructure.
Experience on greenfields mining or major infrastructure projects would be highly advantageous.
Strong understanding of construction methods, quality control, contractor management and construction safety.
Experience working with engineering drawings, specifications, schedules and construction documentation.
Strong practical field leadership and problem-solving capability.
Experience working in remote and challenging environments is preferred.
Knowledge of Guyanese construction requirements and local conditions would be an advantage.
Supervise and coordinate day-to-day construction activities for roads and infrastructure works.
Monitor contractor performance to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and project requirements.
Provide effective field direction and coordination to construction contractors and subcontractors.
Verify that construction methodologies and sequencing are appropriate and aligned with the approved project schedule.
Coordinate interfaces between roads and infrastructure works and other project disciplines and contractors.
Identify construction constraints, access issues and potential delays and work proactively with contractors to resolve them.
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all construction activities.
Ensure contractors comply with the project’s HSE requirements, approved procedures and Guyanese legislation.
Conduct regular field inspections and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks and contractor reviews.
Stop or escalate unsafe work where necessary and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Monitor environmental controls associated with earthworks, drainage, water management, erosion, sediment control and construction activities.
Ensure construction is undertaken in accordance with approved engineering designs, specifications, standards and quality requirements.
Review and monitor contractor inspection and test plans and quality control activities.
Inspect completed works and verify compliance with design tolerances and specifications.
Identify defects, non-conformances and deviations and ensure timely corrective action.
Maintain appropriate records of inspections, approvals, testing and completed works.
Monitor contractor progress against the approved construction schedule and key milestones.
Verify reported progress in the field and provide accurate progress information to the Construction Manager.
Identify potential schedule slippage early and work with contractors to develop recovery plans.
Monitor productivity, resource levels, equipment utilisation and construction sequencing.
Support short-term and look-ahead planning and ensure contractors are adequately prepared for upcoming activities.
Support the Project Manager, Project Controls team and Construction Manager in maintaining construction activities within the approved budget.
Monitor contractor productivity and utilisation of labour, equipment and materials.
Identify potential variations, scope changes and cost impacts and ensure these are appropriately documented and escalated.
Verify quantities and completed work for contractor payment certification.
Ensure construction changes are properly authorised before implementation.
Supervise construction activities including, as applicable:
Mine and project access roads, haul roads and internal roads.
Road formation, earthworks, grading, compaction and surfacing.
Bridges, culverts, causeways and drainage structures.
Stormwater management, drainage channels and erosion control.
Site preparation and bulk earthworks.
Laydown areas, construction camps and temporary facilities.
Water management infrastructure and associated civil works.
Other supporting infrastructure required for the mine development.
Establish effective working relationships with construction contractors and subcontractors.
Monitor contractor compliance with contractual, technical, HSE, quality and schedule requirements.
Participate in contractor coordination meetings and performance reviews.
Ensure contractor manpower, equipment and materials are appropriate for planned activities.
Escalate persistent contractor performance issues to the Construction Manager.
Encourage a collaborative, accountable and results-oriented construction culture.
Prepare regular reports on construction progress, safety, quality, productivity, risks and constraints.
Maintain accurate field records, inspection reports, photographs and construction documentation.
Track and close out construction punch-list items and outstanding works.
Support as-built documentation and handover of completed infrastructure.
Provide timely input to project reporting, forecasting and risk management processes.
