Health & Safety Officer

The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for promoting, monitoring, and maintaining a safe working environment. The successful candidate should have practical knowledge of site safety requirements and be familiar with heavy equipment operations, work at height activities, lifting operations, and document control procedures.

·       Recognized occupational health and safety qualification or certification is preferred.

·       Training in risk assessment, incident investigation, work at height, lifting operations, first aid, or fire safety would be an asset.

·       Computer literacy and experience preparing reports, registers, and safety documentation are required.

·       Experience in a Health and Safety Officer or similar safety role, preferably in construction, industrial, marine, oil and gas, logistics, or heavy equipment environments.

·       Good understanding of hazards related to heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, excavators, loaders, and other mobile plant.

·       Knowledge of work at height controls, fall prevention, scaffolding, ladders, harness use, and rescue considerations.

·       Familiarity with lifting plans, lifting gear inspection and exclusion zones.

·       Strong document control skills, including maintaining registers, filing safety documents, tracking corrective actions, and preparing reports.

·       Ability to communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, contractors, and management.

·       Strong attention to detail, good observation skills, and the ability to take prompt corrective action when risks are identified.

·       Conduct daily site inspections to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and potential hazards.

·       Monitor activities involving heavy equipment, lifting operations, and work at height to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

·       Assist with risk assessments, method statements, job hazard analyses, permits to work, and toolbox talks.

·       Ensure workers, subcontractors, and visitors follow company health and safety policies and use required personal protective equipment.

·       Support incident and near-miss investigations, prepare reports, and follow up on corrective actions.

·       Maintain accurate health and safety records, inspection reports, training records, permits, registers, and other document control requirements.

·       Promote a strong safety culture through coaching, communication, and regular engagement with site teams.

·       Coordinate with supervisors and management to ensure legal, regulatory, and company safety compliance.
