To provide operational and technical ICT support to the staff of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient operation of GWI’s computer network and systems. The role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining modern network devices and infrastructure, and supporting cloud-based and hybrid systems in line with GWI’s evolving digital strategies.
· Diploma or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Administration, or a related field OR Certificate from an accredited institution of similar academic level as a Diploma in field of Computer Science.
· Supplemental certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, or equivalent will be advantageous.
• Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in technical support or network administration in a medium to large organization using modern ICT technologies, including hybrid and cloud environments.
• Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 suite (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) and collaboration tools.
• Solid understanding of network infrastructure, including wired and wireless LANs, VPNs, SD-WAN, and security best practices.
• Experience working with IP Cameras (Installation and Configuration)
• Experience with endpoint security solutions and basic firewall configurations.

• Provide first and second-line helpdesk support for GWI end-users across all Regions, Units, and Departments, resolving hardware, software, and telecommunications issues in person, via phone, email, and remote access tools.
• Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, digital cameras, mobile devices, and IoT/edge devices, ensuring compliance with GWI’s ICT security and usage policies.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues using modern tools, escalating to the Network Administrator when necessary to maintain data/system integrity and availability.
• Maintain comprehensive incident handling logs in the current IT Service Management (ITSM) platform (e.g., ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, Jira Service Management).
• Assist the Network Operations & Security Manager and Network Administrator in capacity planning, network upgrades, and lifecycle management of hybrid environments (on-premise and cloud).
• Monitor device and service health using network monitoring and performance tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds, FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer).
• Provide timely feedback to the Network Administrator on equipment nearing end-of-life and assist in planning for hardware/software refresh cycles.
• Support the implementation of proactive maintenance schedules and firmware/software updates to ensure security and compliance.
• Maintain and update the asset inventory of ICT equipment and software, leveraging automated asset management tools.
• Ensure endpoint protection with modern antivirus and EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) solutions (e.g., Microsoft Defender, FortiEDR), keeping logs up-to-date.
• Ensure timely updates and patching of client devices using modern endpoint management platforms (e.g., Microsoft Intune, SCCM).
• Maintain documentation of deployed solutions and contribute to the ongoing development of standardized operating procedures and best practices.
• Conduct periodic site visits to GWI Regions to support workstation, LAN, and wireless infrastructure setup, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with staff across Regions, Units, and Departments to ensure reliable ICT services and user satisfaction.
• Participate in ICT modernization projects, such as network security enhancements (e.g., SD-WAN, VPN, Zero Trust), cloud migrations, and automation initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, in line with the role and GWI’s ICT objectives.
The Georgetown Sewerage and Water Commission was established on the 23rd March 1929 to provide for the completion of the Sewerage Works of Georgetown. Its objectives were to establish a body of Commissioners to control maintain and manage the Sewerage System and Waterworks of Georgetown; and to provide for the maintenance thereof. GS&WC was responsible for Central Georgetown. The Georgetown Sewerage and Water Amendment Act Number 4 of 1994 made the GS&WC an autonomous public sector institution under the control of the Minister of Works and Communications.
The Guyana Water Authority (GUYWA) was established under the Guyana Water Authority Act Chapter 55:01 of 1972. Its main activities included the construction, operation and maintenance of water distribution systems in order to supply potable water to the public. Prior to the establishment of the Authority, responsibility for the water sector was that of the Pure Water Supply Division of the Ministry of Works.
The Guyana Water Authority was responsible for delivering water to the suburban, Rural and the Hinterland regions excluding Linden and those areas supplied by the Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund Committee.
The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) was established, resulting from the merger of the Guyana Water Authority (Guywa) and the Georgetown Sewerage and Water Commissioners (GS&WC), on May 30, 2002. Thus, GWI is responsible for the previously divided responsibilities of GUYWA and GS&WC.
