Mechanical Technician 1 is responsible for the preparation, inspection, and readiness of MDU engines for start-up and shutdown according to control center instructions and the directives of the Shift Operations Supervisor. They play a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with manufacturer protocols, and executing mechanical adjustments aligned with the power plant’s needs.
This technician possesses advanced expertise in industrial mechanics, with specialized experience in thermal power plants or heavy industrial sectors. They are proficient in executing manufacturer-specific procedures, particularly those prescribed for HIMSEN H21/32 engines.
. Certification or diploma in heavy equipment mechanics or equivalent experience.
· 3+ years of experience in repairing heavy machinery.
· Proficiency in hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
· Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Engine Preparation & Configuration:
. Prepare MDU engines for startup and shutdown, following precise control directives and supervisor instructions.
. Adjust mechanical parameters based on manufacturer specifications (HIMSEN H21/32 procedures).
Fuel & Air System Management:
. Ensure fuel injection system functionality, verifying correct Diesel and HFO flow during transitions.
. Oversee air compression systems, ensuring proper pressure for engine ignition.
Cooling System & Lubrication Oversight:
. Maintain cooling water flow to prevent overheating and ensure proper circulation.
. Monitor and regulate lubricant applications to protect engine components.
Startup & Shutdown Execution:
. Facilitate fuel transitions, ensuring smooth conversion between Diesel and HFO.
. Conduct post-shutdown cleaning, flushing the combustion system with Diesel to clear residue buildup.
. Equipment Inspection & Preventive Maintenance:
. Perform mechanical assessments, identifying wear and potential system inefficiencies. 5. Coordinate maintenance interventions based on operational priorities and plant requirements.
Technical Troubleshooting & Failure Response:
. Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults affecting air, fuel, or cooling systems.
. Work closely with operators to rectify engine irregularities and power stability issues.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
. Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
. Record and report all mechanical adjustments, failures, and corrective actions to the Shift Supervisor.
Vibration Analysis & Mechanical Integrity Checks:
. Conduct vibration monitoring on engine components to detect early signs of wear or misalignment.
. Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure all mechanical assemblies operate within safe vibration thresholds.
Heat Management & Cooling System Optimization:
. Regulate coolant flow rates to maximize thermal efficiency and prevent overheating.
. Ensure heat exchangers and radiators are functioning properly for engine cooling.
Exhaust & Emission Control Compliance:
. Monitor exhaust gas temperature and composition to ensure proper combustion and emissions control.
. Support fuel combustion optimization to reduce unburned residues and minimize environmental impact.
Predictive Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
. Assist in identifying early signs of mechanical failure through operational analysis.
. Recommend preventive actions for reducing downtime and optimizing equipment lifespan.
Emergency Response & Rapid Mechanical Adjustments:
. Maintain readiness to support emergency interventions related to mechanical failures.
. Ensure compliance with HSE protocols when managing urgent mechanical corrections.
