Description

The Medical Laboratory Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health Guyana, Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), and internationally recognized standards such as ISO 15189. The role ensures compliance, accuracy of results, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Science, or related field

  • Registration with the relevant professional authority in Guyana (where applicable)

  • Training or certification in Quality Management Systems (QMS) / ISO standards preferred

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ laboratory experience, including 2+ years in quality management

  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 15189 and local regulatory requirements

  • Experience with audits, CAPA, and accreditation processes

  • Proficiency in laboratory documentation systems and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the laboratory’s Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with national and international standards

  • Ensure compliance with regulations set by the Ministry of Health Guyana and applicable GNBS standards

  • Establish, review, and control Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies

  • Oversee Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programs

  • Coordinate laboratory accreditation processes (ISO 15189 or equivalent where applicable)

  • Conduct internal audits and prepare for external inspections by regulatory authorities

  • Monitor quality indicators (turnaround time, error rates, specimen rejection rates, etc.)

  • Lead Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Investigate incidents, complaints, and non-conformities and ensure proper documentation and resolution

  • Ensure compliance with biosafety, infection control, and waste management regulations

  • Maintain document control systems and ensure proper record keeping

  • Provide training and competency assessments for laboratory personnel

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors when required

  • Prepare and present quality reports to senior management
