Description
Demerara Dairies Inc., a subsidiary of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) is seeking applications from interested persons with the requisite qualifications and experience, for the position of Veterinarian.
Requirements
A degree in veterinary medicine from a recognised university and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience.
Excellent communication skills.
Successful applicant must be willing to work shifts and flexible hours.
Responsibilities
Carry out veterinary treatments and health interventions as prescribed by the Veterinary and Reproduction Manager, including the treatment of sick cows, calves, and heifers.
Assist with reproductive and calving activities, including pregnancy checks, artificial insemination, monitoring the calving process, and assisting animals experiencing calving difficulties.
Monitor and maintain the overall health of the herd by observing for signs of illness, administering vaccinations, conducting post-calving checks, and performing drying-off procedures.
Coordinate preventative animal health programmes, including scheduling and supervising hoof-trimming activities and ensuring appropriate preventative care is administered.
Assist with veterinary procedures and record keeping, including surgical procedures and providing relevant treatment information to the Veterinary and Reproduction Manager for entry into the Herd Management System, while ensuring adequate veterinary coverage is maintained at the farm.
