Employment type - Full-time · Permanent, subject to a 3-month probationary period

Reports to - Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Direct reports - None at appointment; coordinates with crew and operations team

Base site - Soesdyke (Soesdyke–Linden), with field presence at the vessel / port as operations require

Schedule - Monday–Saturday, full-time. Hours flex around vessel arrival, departure and operational demands, including time before or after standard hours when a movement requires it.

Work environment - Both office and field / on-board — indoor administrative work and outdoor / on-vessel work at the waterside

•    Reliable and punctual — dependable every day without reminders.

•    Strong ownership and follow-through — closes loops, finishes what is started.

•    Good numeracy and accuracy — able to count, check, reconcile inventory and support billing correctly.

•    Comfortable working both office and field, including on and around the vessel at the waterside.

•    Willing and able to work a flexible Monday–Saturday schedule that follows vessel arrival and departure, including some time before or after standard hours.

•    Clear communicator — passes information early and keeps operations and crew aligned.

•    Documentation-minded — records and writes things down as a habit.

•    Genuine willingness and drive to learn shipping and logistics operations.

•    Comfortable in a demanding, hands-on industrial / marine environment.

Vessel operations & general vessel management

•    Support all tasks required to run and operate the vessel, before, during and after each movement.

•    Coordinate and support port arrival, berthing and discharge alongside the operations team.

•    Carry out and support vessel inspections together with operations; record findings and follow up on issues.

•    Handle general vessel-management tasks as they arise, within the scope and level of the role.

Inventory, supply & checks

•    Arrange and confirm the supply of stores, materials and consumables the vessel needs.

•    Count, check and record inventory on and off the vessel; reconcile records against actual stock.

•    Flag shortages, damage or discrepancies early and see them resolved.

Coordination — operations & crew

•    Act as the coordination point between the operations team and the crew for vessel movements.

•    Pass information clearly and early so operations and crew are aligned on timing and requirements.

•    Receive, work and resolve crew issues; escalate what cannot be resolved at this level, with the facts documented.

Billing & collections support (vessel-related)

•    Prepare and support billing tied to vessel movements and services, using JSB's billing system (Zoho Books).

•    Support follow-up and collection on vessel-related amounts owed; keep records of what is billed and outstanding.

Documentation & reporting

•    Record and write down the work — supplies, checks, inspections, arrivals, discharges, crew matters and billing.

•    Keep vessel records accurate and up to date so the operation is protected and can be reviewed.

The Officer may be asked to carry out other reasonable duties within the scope and level of the role. JSB operates cross-functionally with shared staff, so supporting other areas when operations require it is part of the job.
