Description

The Accounting Officer – Inventory is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records for inventory, monitoring inventory transactions, reconciling stock records, and ensuring proper financial reporting and controls over inventory.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field can be asset

  • Previous experience in inventory accounting or general accounting is preferred.

  • Knowledge of inventory accounting and reconciliation procedures.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Good organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • High level of integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain accurate inventory transactions in the accounting system.

  • Monitor inventory purchases, issues, transfers, adjustments, and disposals.

  • Reconcile inventory records between the accounting system and physical stock records.

  • Assist with regular physical inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.

  • Verify inventory invoices, purchase orders, goods received notes, and supporting documentation.

  • Monitor inventory valuation and ensure transactions are recorded accurately.

  • Prepare inventory-related reports, schedules, and reconciliations.

  • Investigate and report inventory variances, shortages, or discrepancies.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end inventory closing procedures.

  • Ensure inventory adjustments are properly authorized and documented.

  • Maintain accurate records of obsolete, damaged, or slow-moving inventory.

  • Assist with audits by providing inventory records and supporting documentation.

  • Work closely with Procurement, Operations, Warehouse, and Finance teams regarding inventory matters.

  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and inventory information.

  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned by management.
