Description

To be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation, maintenance, and performance of assigned vessels. The position provides shore-based management and technical support to vessel crews, ensures compliance with applicable maritime laws, company policies, international regulations, and safety management procedures, and promotes the continuous improvement of vessel operations.

Requirements

● Relevant maritime, marine engineering, nautical science, or technical qualification.

● Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) or equivalent maritime qualification, where applicable.

● Significant sea-going experience in a senior officer, Master, Chief Engineer, or equivalent role.

● Relevant shore-based experience in vessel operations, technical management, marine safety, or fleet management.

● Strong knowledge of ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, class requirements, and applicable flag-state and port-state regulations.

● Experience with vessel maintenance, dry-docking, inspections, audits, repairs, and technical projects.

● Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.

● Ability to manage multiple vessels, projects, and priorities effectively.

● Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to operational and emergency situations.

● Proficiency in English and effective communication with multinational crews and stakeholders.

● Valid medical fitness certificate and other required maritime documentation, where applicable.

Responsibilities

● Oversee the safe and efficient operation of assigned vessels.

● Ensure compliance with applicable maritime laws, regulations, flag-state requirements, class requirements, and company procedures.

● Provide operational, technical, and management support to vessel Masters and crew.

● Monitor vessel performance, maintenance activities, machinery condition, fuel consumption, and operational efficiency.

● Plan and coordinate dry-dockings, repairs, inspections, surveys, and maintenance projects.

● Review and approve maintenance plans, work scopes, budgets, and procurement requirements.

● Conduct regular vessel visits, inspections, audits, and management reviews.

● Ensure that vessels are properly certified, documented, maintained, and ready for service.

● Monitor compliance with the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS), ISM Code requirements, and applicable environmental regulations.

● Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, defects, and operational concerns, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

● Support emergency response activities and provide guidance to vessel personnel during emergencies.

● Liaise with Masters, Chief Engineers, port authorities, agents, charterers, class societies, flag-state representatives, contractors, and company management.

● Coordinate vessel movements, port operations, cargo operations, repairs, and other operational requirements where applicable.

● Monitor crew welfare, training, competence, performance, and compliance with company standards.

● Assist with crew planning, recruitment, appraisal, promotion, and professional development.

● Review vessel reports, logs, inspection findings, maintenance records, and performance data.

● Manage operational budgets and control costs while maintaining safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

● Ensure timely procurement and delivery of spare parts, stores, equipment, and technical supplies.

● Promote a strong safety culture and prevent accidents, injuries, pollution, and damage to vessels, cargo, or the environment.

● Identify operational risks and implement effective risk-control measures.

● Prepare management reports and provide recommendations for improving vessel reliability, safety, and efficiency.

● Carry out any other duties necessary for the safe, compliant, and efficient management of assigned vessels.
