Lorry Attendant

The Lorry Attendant is responsible for directing and assisting vehicle operators in the safe and efficient maneuvering of vehicles, particularly in confined or complex environments. This role is essential in ensuring that vehicles are positioned correctly during loading and unloading processes, and that all operations are conducted safely to prevent accidents or damage. The Lorry Attendant communicates clearly with drivers, providing guidance through hand signals, radio, or other methods to ensure smooth and safe vehicle movements.

• Ability to stand for long periods

• Capable of lifting and carrying materials

• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions

 Working Conditions

• Physically demanding role

• Work involves navigating trucks both within and outside of the city

• Guide and direct drivers safely when maneuvering vehicles in tight or restricted spaces

• Assist with reversing, parking, and positioning during loading and unloading

• Use clear hand signals and/or communication devices to instruct drivers

• Monitor surroundings to identify and eliminate potential hazards

• Ensure all movements comply with company safety standards and regulations

• Maintain a safe working environment for pedestrians, drivers, and staff

• Align vehicles accurately for efficient cargo handling

• Work closely with loading teams to ensure smooth operations

• Maintain clear communication with drivers and team members

• Report safety concerns, incidents, or equipment issues to the Operations Supervisor

• Keep work areas organized and free of obstructions

• Assist drivers in checking that equipment (ratchets, straps, chains) is in good condition

• Participate in safety training programs

• Stay updated on best practices and safety procedures

• Perform any other duties within the scope of a Banksman / Porter role
