We are excited to announce the search for a talented and motivated Legal Clerk / Secretary to join our team at THE SUI GENERIS LAW FIRM at out Essequibo Location.

ABOUT THE FIRM

The Sui Generis Law Firm is a recent addition to the legal landscape in Guyana. The Firm opened its doors on the 6th November 2023. It was conceptualised by our two Founding/Managing Partners, Ms. Patricia Shepherd and Mr. Teakaram Singh, Attorneys-at-law.

The Firm specializes in various areas of practice, with the exception of criminal law cases. We are proud to have our two experienced Founding/Managing Partners overseeing our operations and ensuring the highest level of service. With three conveniently located offices, we are dedicated to providing exceptional legal representation to our clients.

Requirements

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

1)      Knowledge of the operations of the various Courts Registries in Guyana

2)      Ability to work with minimal supervision

3)      Detail-oriented

4)      Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

5)      Ability to maintain confidentiality

6)      Responsible and able to meet deadlines

7)      Proficient in Microsoft Applications

8)      Ability to quickly learn and adapt to different software applications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Five (5) subjects CSEC, including Mathematics and English Language at Grades I – III plus certificate in Computer Studies with one (1) year relevant experience.

Responsibilities

1)      Document Management: Collecting, organizing, and maintaining legal documents, correspondence, and case files.

2)      Legal Research Assistance: Assisting in legal research and analysis to support attorneys in case preparation

3)      Preparation of Legal Documents: Assisting in preparing legal documents such as contracts, briefs, and pleadings.

4)      Courtroom Assistance: Providing support during court proceedings, which may include preparing case materials and taking notes.

5)      Scheduling and Calendaring: Organizing and maintaining the legal team's schedule, including arranging appointments and court dates.

6)      Communication: Corresponding with clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in legal cases to facilitate information exchange.

7)      Administrative Tasks: Performing tasks such as filing, photocopying, and ordering office supplies to ensure smooth office operations.

8)      Court Filings: Ensure proper filing and documenting of Court matters.
