Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Supervisor
Location: Soesdyke, Guyana
Department: Engineering / Operations
Reports To: CEO (with weekly reporting to Operations Manager)
Employment Type: Full-time (6 days per week, with flexibility for extended hours based on operational needs
• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (valid for Guyana)
• Minimum 5 years in mechanical engineering, workshop supervision, or industrial maintenance
• Strong knowledge of engines, heavy equipment, and maintenance systems
• Leadership and supervision experience with mechanics
• Financial awareness and cost-saving capabilities
• Hands-on fabrication and repair experience
• Experience with logistics, construction, or mining equipment (asset)
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance and supply chain management
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Technical Duties
1. Analysis and Problem Solving
• Analyze and improve mechanical systems for efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to engines, machinery, and thermal systems.
2. Project Management
• Plan, schedule, and oversee mechanical and engineering projects.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, and production teams to ensure successful project delivery.
3. Testing and Evaluation
• Conduct inspections and performance testing of equipment.
• Identify defects, root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure all systems meet safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
4. Manufacturing & Fabrication Support
• Collaborate with workshop teams to fabricate or modify parts when necessary.
• Recommend materials and processes to reduce costs and improve performance.
5. Maintenance and Operations • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
• Reduce equipment downtime through proactive monitoring and cost-saving initiatives.
6. Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain accurate logs of repairs, modifications, and preventive actions.
• Prepare operation manuals, technical specifications, and weekly performance reports.
7. Workshop Supervision
• Directly oversee mechanics, ensuring high productivity and accountability.
• Ensure proper utilization of parts, tools, and workshop resources.
• Investigate defects reported by operations teams, determine root causes, and recommend accountability measures (including reporting misuse to Finance). 1. Parts & Stores Management
• Oversee storage department to ensure correct and efficient use of parts.
• Collaborate with Procurement to ensure correct, high-quality parts are ordered and supplied.
• Manage supply chain to minimize delays and ensure readiness of parts for repairs.
6. HR & Team Leadership
• Motivate, supervise, and train workshop staff to maximize efficiency.
• Conduct performance reviews and ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
7. Financial & Cost Control
• Develop strategies to reduce workshop and equipment expenses.
• Implement preventive maintenance to minimize costly breakdowns.
• Support Finance with cost reports and accountability when misuse is identified.
8. Reporting
• Submit weekly workshop performance reports and recommendations to the CEO and Operations Manager.
• Track KPIs including equipment uptime, cost savings, and timeliness of repairs.
Performance Evaluation (KPIs) Performance will be measured on:
• Equipment availability and uptime.
• Reduction of breakdowns and downtime.
• Cost savings achieved through preventive maintenance and fabrication.
• Accuracy of defect investigations and reporting.
• Efficiency of procurement and supply chain management.
• Workshop staff productivity and performance.
• Compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Timeliness of repairs and reporting. Requirements Core Competencies & Skills
